The Forthcoming XIVth ISBC

Members of the ISBC decided in Wurzburg to accept the invitation of the Institute for Marine Biology of the  Unversity of Gdansk to hold the next conference in Poland at the trio of neighbouring towns Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia on the coast of the Bay of Gdansk in the Baltic Sea.

The planned time is early summer (May / June) 2006.

Although the calorimetry of aquatic animals will be a central interest, contributions ranging from molecules to larger animals and plants will be actively solicited and most welcome.

XIIIth ISBC / 2003

The latest conference Energetics of Adaptation and Development took place from September 27 to October 01 in Veitshöchheim, a lovely place on the bank of the Main River near Würzburg. More than 60 members of the ISBC family followed a broad spectrum of the Biological Calorimetry research topics, prepared by Dominique Singer, Department of Pediatrics, University Clinics, Würzburg.

 40 high quality lectures - spanning from Birds over Everest – Extreme Hypoxia Tolerance to From CaloRespirometry to Mitochondrial Physiology - and 13 posters - informed the participants about the newest developments in the following fields:

 Botany/Forestry; Environmental Physiology/Metabolic Adaptation; Cell Biology/Detection of Tissue Damage; Bioenergetics/Biothermodynamics; Exercise Physiology/Clinical Calorimetry; Developmental Physiology; Microbiology/Drug Research; Methods/Instrumentation

It was the first time in the line of ISBC conferences that Indirect Calorimetry played a prominent role.
